Wahkon Days 2021 & Beyond

“Cities have no statutory authority to hold fundraisers. We recommend that the City establish a relationship with a local non-profit organization to handle the activities of Wahkon Days. The proceeds from the event can be donated to the City once the event is complete.”
Due to the above “significant deficiency” noted in Wahkon’s 2019 audit, Council made the difficult, but necessary, decision that the City can no longer be in charge of this wonderful community event. The City began organizing Wahkon Days in 2010 after the Wahkon Civic Assoc. dissolved, in order to continue the long-held tradition. The City conducted ten very successful events thanks to dedicated volunteers!
The band Jonah and the Whales were booked for 2020, but due to COVID-19 it was cancelled. They allowed our retainer to be carried over to Saturday August 21, 2021. The City has extensive notes and financial reports for each year’s events which would be shared gratefully to the new organization.
If someone knows of a non-profit organization willing and able to do Wahkon Days, please contact Karrie @ #320.495.3441. It is Council’s desire that this small-town event can continue into the future!

Transportation Survey – We need your ideas.

We would like a few minutes of your time and your ideas about transportation – specifically, extending public transit within northern Mille Lacs County. We are exploring the possibility of bringing convenient, handicap accessible, affordable transportation options to the area. There is no guarantee that public transit services will be developed, but we want to understand the need for transit in an effort to explore existing and future opportunities. Your answers will help guide our work.  Thank you.

Please return to City of Wahkon when complete, survey link below to PDF:

2021 Chili Cookoff – Cancelled

Due to the unknowns of the public health emergency, the fact we are heading into winter wherein medical experts state we have more chances of spreading/catching COVID-19, restricted capacity of patrons in the establishment, and the City has cancelled all events for 2020, the hard decision was made to cancel the 2021 Beef Chili Cook Off.
