City of Wahon, Minnesota

The Story of Wahkon, MN - Tucked along Mille Lacs Lake’s South Shore, Wahkon was the earliest settlement in the Mille Lacs Lake area, beginning its history in 1885. It was platted on the southeast shore of Mille Lacs Lake by the Soo Railroad Company near the site of the old town of Lawrence, once an American Indian trading post.

Food Access Survey

Good Afternoon!

I have a request to ask you all–to please take and pass along my Food Access survey!

The purpose of this survey to find out where the residents of Pine, Kanabec, Aitkin, and Mille Lacs counties stand in terms of food access/security, interest in starting food related businesses, and if they would be willing to be a part of a focus group to develop goals, outcomes and objectives for a project. I need this information for a grant that is due on March 17, so it is critical to the project that many people are exposed to the opportunity to help me out.

Here is the link to the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZPVGC9T

Please feel free to contact me if you, or anyone you pass this along to, has questions. I can be reached easily by email (DepotVISTA@gmail.com), but I will be out of the office March 6-9, so calling during that time would not be best. Again, thank you for taking the time to help me out!! I really appreciate it!!

Best,

Virginia Zenzen

Wahkon WAVE Fundraising Updates

Wahkon WAVE Fundraiser Updates

Sock Hop and other dances:

The last dance on 9/13 wasn’t as well attended as others, but thank you to those that did attend as it raised some money for the WAVE fund, $118.06. It was the third dance this year and there were two wedding receptions that evening that limited the attendees. This year $2,812.02 has been raised through the WAVE dances!

Thank you to the businesses that donate their establishment at no cost and even supply a banquet for the dancers at no charge!

Meat Raffle:

Thanks to all the meat raffle volunteers WAVE has received $1280 from the Mille Lacs Drift Skippers and $500 from Onamia Lions Club (for previous meat raffles when they were in Mugg’s) just this year. Each round WAVE receives $5. The meat raffle volunteer schedule is full through the end of the year! If interested in helping in 2015, please let me know. The meat raffle donations thus far has raised over $10,000!!!!
